ALAN LOMAX The folk music historian whose work as a composer himself can be heard on dozens of screen productions signed this black and white photograph Photograph Signed: “Alan Lomax”. B/w. 8x10. Actual image 7½x9¼ with a thin white border (one surface). Alan Lomax (1915-2002) is an important figure in the preservation of American music. As a young man, he worked for the Library of Congress and its Archive of American Folk Song, collecting songs and interviews throughout the country. In 1942, the Library of Congress stopped receiving funds to collect folk songs and related materials. Lomax spent decades of his life as an independent archivist, travelling internationally to collect American and international music. As a composer and musician, Lomax can be heard in contemporary and period productions. His credits include Gangs of New York (2002), Mission: Impossible II (2000), and Dogfight (1991). Lomax's work as a music historian is what he is most remembered for. His collection of historical sound, film, images, and transcripts was turned over to the Library of Congress, most of which has been made available online. Lightly toned around edges. Wrinkled. Otherwise, fine condition.
