Typed Letter Signed: "Albert L. Vreeland" 1p, 8x10. March 14, 1939. Letter written on
official Congressional letterhead. Addressed to "Mr. Joseph P. Kelley, President/ New Jersey
State Society/ Washington, D.C.". Written to "My dear Mr. Kelley". In full: "I wish to thank
you for your kind invitation to be present at the reception and dance to be given by the New Jersey
State Society on March 24, and to assure you that I shall be most happy to attend./ With kind
regards, I am/ Sincerely yours". Albert Lincoln Vreeland (1901-1975) was a Republican
congressman who represented the state of New Jersey from 1939 to 1943. He worked as
an ambulance driver for the American Red Cross before attending the New Jersey Law School
in Newark (which is now known as the Rutgers School of Law). The New Jersey
congressman went on to serve in World War II. Following his release from the Army in
1945, Vreeland served as the police commissioner of East Orange. Lightly toned. Two
horizontal mailing folds. Otherwise, fine condition.
