ALBERT WASSERMAN
Directors Guild of America membership dues form signed by documentary producer and writer Albert Wasserman in 1968
Annotated document signed "Albert Wasserman" in blue ink. 2 pages, 8½x11, 1 sheet, front and verso. Jan. 28, 1968. Titled: "Directors Guild of America Annual Filing Required in By-Laws". Wasserman filled this out to determine his membership dues in the Directors Guild of America. According to this document, his gross earnings for 1967 as a member were "None", because he worked as a producer and writer "solely in a non-DGA capacity". But that didn't get him out of paying a minimum of $100 in dues to the Guild. Wasserman (1921-2005, born in Brooklyn, New York) was a television writer and producer who's probably best known for being the founding producer of NBC-TV's White Paper documentary series. Wasserman got his start in documentaries and was a pioneer in that genre. He wrote First Steps (1947), a documentary that won an Academy Award for Best Documentary, Short Subjects. He was later hired as a staff writer at CBS-TV before moving to NBC and developing the White Paper series, work that earned him two Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Writing Achievement in the Documentary Field. Wasserman moved back to CBS and was a producer for 60 Minutes from 1976 to 1986. Lightly creased. Impressions in upper left corner. Folded twice and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
