ALBERT WILLIAMS
Signature of the pitcher who took time off from baseball to fight as a Sandinista
Signature: "Albert Williams", in blue ink, 5x3. Albert Hamilton Williams DeSouza (b. 1954)
left the Pirates farm system to fight as a Sandinista guerrilla in his native Nicaragua
(1977-1978). He ended up having to be smuggled out of Nicaragua because the government
refused to grant him a visa. After returning to baseball, Williams pitched for the Minnesota
Twins for his entire playing career (1980-1984), mostly in a starting role. In his 5 years in
the Majors he compiled a 35-38 record, had 262 strikeouts, and finished with a lifetime
ERA of 4.64. Lightly toned at edges. Ink stamp on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
