Gp./ 5 Air Victories" 6½x3½. First day cover for the Old North Church, Americana Series. Postmarked Boston, MA, November 14, 1975. 24¢ stamp affixed, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. First Lieutenant Al Rigby (1923-2015), who flew 76 combat missions (a total of 272 combat hours), became an ace while serving with the 487th Fighter Squadron, 352nd Fighter Group, based at Bodney, England. On January 1, 1945, Rigby was one of twelve pilots in the "Legend of Y-29 Mission", shooting down two Me-109s and two FW-190s. Rigby later served three years of active duty during the Korean conflict with the Air Division in the Air Defense Command. Slightly creased at upper left blank corner. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Lightly soiled on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
