Aldo Ray (1926-1991), born Aldo DaRe, was a leading man of Hollywood and some European films, specializing in playing brawny but lovable tough guys. After debuting on screen in 1951, Ray went on to portray American rednecks and military men in over 60 films over his 39-year career. His credits include Pat and Mike (1952), The Naked and the Dead (1958), God's Little Acre (1958), What Did You Do in the War, Daddy? (1966), Dead Heat on a Merry-Go-Round (1966), The Green Berets (1968), Won Ton Ton, The Dog Who Saved Hollywood (1976), The Secret of NIMH (1982, voice) and Shock 'Em Dead (1991, his last film). Ray also appeared in several made-for-TV movies, and he made guest appearances on several TV series, including Westinghouse Desilu Playhouse (1958), Naked City (1962), Burke's Law (1964), Daniel Boone (1965), The Virginian (1962, 1966), Love, American Style (1969), Bonanza (1964, 1972), CHIPS (1979) and Falcon Crest (1985).
