ALEEN LESLIE
Autograph Letter signed: "Aleen", 1 page, 7¼x10½. Beverly Hills, California, 1999 February 26. On personal letterhead to actress/comedienne Phyllis Diller. In full: "Thank you for your thank-you letter about my party. One of my other thank-you letters was from my son, who said he was standing behind Sylvia Davidson, who was seated talking (he was) to a man standing beside him. He didn't notice that liquid from his plate was running down on her hair, on down her nose and into her lap. I said in my return letter to him that I'd done something worse - I'd misspelled Phyllis Diller's name. Now I hear you are in the hospital. That's a lot worse than being misspelled. But I hope you are recuperating fast and soon will be back in your beautiful (shown on TV) home. I was at Bijou's brunch today. I nearly didn't make it because I don't get up until noon. I read until 3 A.M. every night (and part of the day, of course). You were mentioned several times. There are always those name droppers, you know. Get well soon! Lovingly". Staple holes in upper left. Otherwise, fine condition. Accompanied by autograph envelope, unsigned but in Leslie's hand, addressed to Phyllis Diller at St. John's Hospital, Santa Monica, California. Ink notes (unknown hand). Neatly opened at top. Staple holes in lower right. Aleen Leslie wrote short stories and screenplays, the latter being mostly light comedies (The Doctor Takes a Wife, 1940; Father is a Bachelor, 1950). She also wrote the script for the culturally significant Rosie the Riveter (1944). Two items.
