ALEXANDER DE SEVERSKY, CO-SIGNED BY: EVELYN DE SEVERKSY, LARRY KENT, ANNETTE KENT, HANNAH SLATER, FRANCES RUSHMORE
The signatures of the Russian aviator along with his wife, a New York journalist and three unknown others are written on this paper clipping in multiple ink colors
Autograph note signed: "Mar. 23-/Evelyn de Seversky with love to Hildy/whom we find greater then [sic] ever", "Sasha de Seversky", "Come to London soon- Please-/Annette & Larry Kent" in blue ink, on verso: "(Mrs.) Hannah Slater/[address]" and "Frances Rushmore- alias Karen March/N.Y. Journal American" in green ink. 9½x4¼. A Russian air ace in World War I, ALEXANDER DE SEVERSKY (1894-1974) came to the United States in 1918 and founded the Seversky Aircraft Corp. (forerunner of Republic Aircraft), manufacturing pursuit planes, notably the P-47. Member of the National Aviation Hall of Fame, Seversky invented various airplane devices including a bombsight. His book advocating reliance on strategic bombing to win World War II was turned into an influential Disney documentary film in 1943, with Severesky in a starring role. EVELYN DE SEVERSKY (1907-1967) was the wife of Alexander de Seversky. She was also known as an airplane pilot. The two were married in 1923. FRANCES RUSHMORE (1920-1958) was an American news journalist and editor. She worked at the New York Journal-American, and anti-communist publication, as a fashion editor where she met Howard Rushmore, notorious investigative journalist. The two were married in 1945, starting the beginning of a tumultuous relationship that would eventually result in the death of them both. On January 3, 1958, Howard Rushmore shot Frances and then himself, while in a taxi home from a restaurant. Other three signers merit further research. Toned. Edges irregular. Left edge torn from book. Otherwise, fine condition.
