The actor and composer known for his All-Girl Orchestra signs this slip of paper with just his last name
Signature: “D'Artega Jan 28th/58” and “Roy Truman Jan 30/55” in black ink. 8¾x3½. Two unidentified signatures on verso. Alfonso D'Artega (1907-1998), often known simply as D'Artega, was a songwriter, conductor, arranger and actor. His song "In the Blue of the Evening", co-written with Tom Adair, was a number one hit for the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra in 1943. In 1946 he initiated the Carnegie Hall "Pops" concerts with members of the New York Philharmonic. In 1947 D'Artega played the role of Tchaikovsky in the film Carnegie Hall, conducting the film score as well. He formed Alfonso D'Artega's All-Girl Orchestra in New York City in 1942 which appeared in the Broadway play called "Hair Pin Harmony". They were also featured in the Paramount Pictures release You Can't Ration Love and toured throughout the United States and Pacific performing for the USO. Other signers merit further research. Lightly toned. Edges irregular. Corners lightly rounded and creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
