signature. Alfred Austin (1835-1913), who later edited the "National
Review", followed Lord Tennyson as Poet Laureate of England (1896-1913).
Major themes in his poetry include a love of nature and strong patriotism.
Austin had first came to prominence with The Season: A Satire
(1861). In 1870, he wrote The Poetry of the Period, a criticism that
attacked Tennyson and other poets of the day. Toned. Ink lightly faded but
legible. Worn at edges and corners. Otherwise, fine condition.
