from The Times newspaper with rough edges. March 28, 1916.
Addressed to Julius Chambers, Esq. In full: "Dear Julius Chambers, I
have just returned from France. It was most kind of you to send me the very warm
tribute you paid to my work. I did not know that the assistant cen-sor is the
same ridiculous Swettenham, and indeed I do not think he is. Give my regards to
Melville Stone when you see him, and accept my warm thanks for your
kindness.".Harmsworth (1865-1922, born in Chapelizod, Dublin,
Ireland) was a British newspaper publisher who is considered the innovator of
popular journalism. Born into poverty,hegot his start as a
freelance reporter and got his start with a paper called Answers and a
number of cheap, successful periodicals. An early pioneer of tabloid
journalism, he founded papers like the London Evening News (1894),
The Daily Mail (1896), known as "The Penny Newspaper for One Half Penny",
and the Daily Mirror (1903) and rescued The Observer and The
Times in the first decade of the 20th Century. Lightly toned, soiled and
creased. Folded once and unfolded. Otherwise in fine
condition.
