Pulitzer Prize-winning author and educator Alfred D. Chandler, Jr. (1918-2007) was the
Straus Professor of Business History at Harvard Business School (1971-1989; Emeritus
from 1989). Chandler, who had won the 1978 Pulitzer and Bancroft Prizes for The Visible
Hand: The Managerial Revolution in American Business, wrote extensively on the
evolution of the modern corporation and was assistant editor for four volumes of The Letters
of Theodore Roosevelt (1950-1952) and editor of five volumes of The Papers of Dwight D.
Eisenhower (1970). The historian and educator's credits also include being an instructor to
professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1951-1964), Professor of History at
Johns Hopkins University (1963-1971) and consultant to the U.S. Naval War College
(1954). Lightly toned. Fine condition.
