ALFRED E. KAHN
B/w White House publicity photo of economist Alfred E. Kahn in a suit-and-tie, signed "with best regards" in 1979, one year after he oversaw the deregulation of commercial airlines in the United States
Inscribed photograph signed "To George Sanders/with best regards/Alfred E Kahn/6/11/79". B/w, 8x9¾ overall, 7 ½ x 9 ½ image, one surface. Kahn, born in 1917, is an American economist and professor, but is probably known to those outside academic circles as "The Father of Airline Deregulation". An economics professor at Cornell University since 1947 (he is also Robert Julius Thorne Professor Emeritus of Political Economy at that institution), he was also Chairman of the Civil Aeronautics Board (1977-8), which regulated commercial airline fares. He oversaw the disbanding of this government board and, at the same time, the deregulation of commercial air fares in the United States. He was also President Jimmy Carter's advisor on inflation and was Chairman on the Council on Wage and Price Stability, also known as the "inflation czar", during Carter's administration. Lightly toned and bowed. Light dents along left edge. Otherwise in fine condition.
