Standard AFTRA Engagement Contract in which the National Broadcasting Co. hires Hitchcock as host for "A Closer Look", scheduled final performance day 1977 September 26 [2 weeks before the contract was signed]. Hitchcock is to receive $1,000 for the first performance, plus compensation for replays, specified on p3. P2 authorizes NBC to utilize clips from Hitchcock's previous NBC appearances in connection with the program and in advertising and publicity for it. (The program was a retrospective on the network titled, in full: "NBC: the First 50 Years - a Closer Look.") English director Alfred Hitchcock (1899-1980) hosted two successful television shows, Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1955-1962) and The Alfred Hitchcock Hour (1962-1965), that opened with his profile. Films directed by the "Master of Suspense" include Rebecca, Suspicion, Lifeboat, Spellbound, Notorious, The Man Who Knew Too Much, Dial M for Murder, Rear Window, Vertigo, North by Northwest, Psycho, Torn Curtain and The Birds. Nominated five times for Best Director, Hitchcock never won an Academy Award. He was awarded the Irving Thalberg Memorial Award by the Academy in 1967. Alfred Hitchcock Signed Contract. Three-page, double-sided AFTRA network television engagement contract between Hitch and NBC, dated October 10, 1977, and signed on the first page by the legendary director in blue ink.
