Oscar-nominated director Alfred Hitchcock signed this contract with MCA, Inc. on Dec. 7, 1965. It amends the advertising agreements in an earlier contract.
Contract signed "Alfred Hitchcock" in blue ink and a representative of MCA, Inc. in black ink. 2 pages, 8½x10¾, single-sided sheets, with two binder holes at top edge, photocopy. Dec. 7 1965. Addressed to Mr. Alfred Hitchcock c/o Chain-Park Citron Agency, Los Angeles, California. This contract amends the advertising agreements in an earlier contract, signed on Jan. 8, 1965, between Hitchcock and MCA. Hitchcock didn't direct any films in 1965. However, his next three films after signing this contract - Torn Curtain (1966), Topaz (1969) and Frenzy (1972) - were all for Universal Pictures, which MCA took over in 1962. Hitchcock (1899-1980) hosted two successful television shows - Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1955-1962) and The Alfred Hitchcock Hour (1962-1965) - which opened with his profile. Films directed by the "Master of Suspense" include The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934), Rebecca (1940), Suspicion (1941), Lifeboat (1944), Spellbound (1945), Notorious (1946), Dial M for Murder (1954), Rear Window (1954), Vertigo (1958), North by Northwest (1959), Psycho (1960), The Birds (1963) and Torn Curtain (1966). Astonishingly, Hitchcock never won an Oscar, although he was nominated five times for Best Director. The Academy awarded him the Irving Thalberg Memorial Award in 1967. He was knighted in 1980. Lightly toned and creased. Staple holes in top edge. Lightly rounded and worn corners. Photocopy marks. Otherwise in fine condition.
