ALFRED LORD TENNYSON
Alfred Lord Tennyson sends an autograph letter agreeing to a
request.
Autograph Letter Signed: "A Tennyson", 1p, 4½x7. No place,
1865 February 8. On embossed Farringford, Freshwater, Isles of Wright
letterhead; to Reverend Thomas Clulow. In full: "Sir, I hereby comply
with your request & have the honor to be Your obedt Servant". In 1850,
English poet Alfred Lord Tennyson (1809-1892) wrote the elegy, In
Memoriam, which became a favorite of Queen Victoria, who appointed
Tennyson as Poet Laureate the same year. Tennyson works also include
historical dramas, such as Queen Mary (1875), Harold (1876) and
Becket (1884), the lyric poems, Morte d'Arthur (1842) and
Charge of the Light Brigade (1855), and his epic, The Idylls of the
King. Farringford was Tennyson's home. Lightly creased and soiled
touching signature. Otherwise, fine condition.
