ALFRED LUNT
Lunt handwrote and signed this letter on stationery from the Midland Hotel in Manchester, England to let a Mr. Claxton know that he didn't have any photographs.
Autograph letter signed "Alfred Lunt". 1 page, 4¾x6¾, on stationery from the Midland Hotel, Manchester, England. Addressed to "Mr. Claxton". In full: "sorry but we have as yet no photographs". Lunt (1892-1977, born in Milwaukee, Illinois) performed in, directing and producing over 50 Broadway productions between 1903 and 1962, earning two Tonys near the end of his stage career: one in 1954 for Best Director in Ondine (1954, 157 performances) and one in 1955 Best Actor in a Play in Quadrille (1954-1955, 150 performances). Lunt married actress Lynn Fontaine in 1922, and they both appeared together in 26 Broadway productions between 1923 and 1958. One of these shows was The Guardsman (1924-1925, 248 performances). Both were cast in the 1932 film adaptation of the play, roles that earned them nominations for Best Actor and Actress in a Leading Role. The Guardsman was one of only nine movies and TV shows that Lunt performed in; he earned an Emmy for Outstanding Individual Achievements in Entertainment - Actors and Performers for his last TV role, the Hallmark Hall of Fame episode The Magnificent Yankee. Lightly creased. Random ink stains. Letter has been folded in half and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
