ALFRED LUNT and LYNN FONTANNE
Vintage photo of Lunt on the set of The Guardsman, signed in person by the acting couple for collector Saul Goodman. Lunt and Fontanne both received Oscar nominations for this film, adapted from hit Broadway play.
Photograph signed: "Alfred Lunt", "Lynn Fontanne". B/w, 8x10. Collector's ink stamp on verso dates signature: December 12, 1935. American actor ALFRED LUNT (1893-1977) and British actress LYNN FONTANNE (1892-1983) were married in 1922 and appeared together on the Broadway stage for the next 35 years in success after success. They were in only three films together: Second Youth (1924), The Guardsman (1931) and Stage Door Canteen (1943). They received Best Actor and Best Actress nominations for their performances in The Guardsman, an adaptation of their Broadway stage success, and the only film in which they co-starred. Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New York business man by day, pursued his love of film and theatre in the evening, making friends with many celebrities. While other autograph seekers offered album leaves, Goodman presented stars with snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to sign in fountain pen. Light surface marks and scattered creases. Otherwise, fine condition.
