Autograph quotation signed: "Alfred Noyes", 5x4. In full:
"From "Tales of the Mermaid Tavern". The Little Red Ring What will
be last of the stars to perish? The fire that lighteth period or two
[signature] July 22nd 14". English author Alfred Noyes (1880-1958)
wrote novels and short stories, some of which were made into successful radio
plays, but is best remembered for his poetry. His best known poem is "The
Highwayman" (1906). In 1924 he collaborated with composer Edward Elgar to
produce Pageant of Empire for the British Empire Exhibition of that
year. Noyes lived and taught for many years in the US, and was popular on both
sides of the Atlantic. He was honored with a C.B.E. in 1918. Light surface
creases. Corners slightly worn. Lightly toned. Left edge slightly worn. Paper
remnants on verso. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine
condition.
