ALFREDO CAMPOLI and CLIFFORD CURZON. Signatures: "Alfredo
Campoli" and, on verso, "Clifford Curzon.", 5¾x4¼. ALFREDO
CAMPOLI (1906-1991), born in Rome but raised in London from 1911, was
recognized as one of the outstanding violinists of his time after WWII.
The violin soloist, who had led his own salon orchestra in the 1930s,
toured widely and also appeared in the British films Dreaming (1944,
playing Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor op 64), Old Mother
Riley, Detective (1943) and Stepping Toes (1938). British pianist
CLIFFORD CURZON (1907-1982), who started his career as a fiery virtuoso,
became known as "the greatest living Mozartian" during his lifetime.
Curzon, who interpreted the works of other composers as well, recorded on the
Decca label from the early 1940s until his death. Lightly soiled. Tape stains on
front, touching the upper loop of the "C" in Campoli. Overall, fine
condition.
