The operatic soprano inscribes this 3½x5½ photo to a fan
Inscribed Photograph signed: "To Mr. C. Libottes/ as a souvenir of "Fidelio"/ Alice Bérelly/ April 1912" French has been translated in full, in purple ink, b/w, 3½x5½. Alice Bérelly was an operatic soprano. She appeared in many operas during the early part of the 20th century including the one referenced in this photo, Fidelio by Beethoven. Bérelly played the role of Diane in Iphigénie en Aulide the three-act opera by Christoph Willibald Gluck based on Jean Racine's Iphigénie. She also was in Les Enfants Rois by Engelbert Humperdinck, in which she played "la gardente d'oie": the keeper of the gooses. Moreover, she appeared in a production of L'Oiseau bleu by Albert Wolff. Heavily toned. Addressed (in an unknown hand), but not postmarked, to "Monsieur Camille Libotte/ 20 Avenue Dailly/ Schaerbeek" on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
