ALICE FAYE
A letter from the actress giving thanks for a congratulatory card on the birth of her first child, Alice Faye Junior
Typed letter signed: "Alice Faye", 1p, 5¼x6½. No place, 1942 June 18. To Norma. In full: "In addition to sending you my autograph I am writing this short note to thank you for the adorable card you sent to my baby and me. It is such a pretty one and will be placed in the album I am making for Alice Faye Junior when she is older as I know she will enjoy looking at them. I am sorry that I cannot include my husband's autograph [items not included]. He left hear (sic) early this month for his summer tour and will not be back at the Coast until the Fall." At the time of this letter, Faye had been married to her second husband, Phil Harris, for less than 13 months (the couple was married from May 21, 1941 until his death on August 11, 1995). They would have two daughters, Alice Faye, mentioned in this letter, and Phyllis Wanda, born in 1944. Faye's first husband (1937-1940) was Tony Martin. Alice Faye (1915-1998) was a chorus girl who rose to movie stardom in such films as In Old Chicago (1938), Rose of Washington Square (1939) and Tin Pan Alley (1940). She also co-starred with husband Phil Harris in a popular radio comedy series. Semi-retired thereafter, Faye remained popular on TV and in nightclub appearances. Lightly creased with mid-horizontal fold, not at signature. Irregular left edge. Fine condition.
