ALICE GHOSTLEY
The actress, who is best known for her roles as Esmeralda on Bewitched and Bernice Clifton on Designing Women, is depicted in a still from her 1978 comedy, Record City.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "Good luck Jim/Alice Ghostley". B/w, 9¾x8 overall, image 9¼x6½ (one surface). Still from the comedy, Record City, which was released in February 1978 and also featured Ed Begley, Jr., Sorrell Brooke, Ruth Buzzi, Jack Carter, Rick Dees, Gallagher, Frank Gorshin and Larry Storch. ©1977, American International Pictures. Captioned at lower margin: "ACCUSATION - Arms folded, comedian Ted Lange, as Wiz the assistant manager of a popular record shop, heads a group of employees and customers who look on amusedly as Alice Ghostley, the worried wife, confronts Cindy Roberts, a sexy girl, whos proximity has caused her sickly husband, Leonard Barr to faint in the aisles of the shop in American International's hilarious comedy-with-music, 'Record City.'" In 1978, the prolific character actress was also seen on the big screen in Rabbit Test and Grease, and Ghostley made guest appearances on the small screen in episodes of CHiPS, Police Woman, Family, One Day at a Time and Chico and the Man. Alice Ghostley (1926-2007) is best known for her roles as Esmeralda on Bewitched (1966-1972) and Bernice Clifton on Designing Women (1986-1993), for which she was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 1992. Ghostley, who won a Tony Award in 1965 for The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window and was nominated for a Tony in 1963 for The Beauty Part, made her television debut in 1953 in Freedom Rings, and she would go on to guest star in a long list of TV series, including Car 54, Where Are You?, Get Smart, The Ghost & Mrs. Muir, Hogan's Heroes, Love, American Style, Good Times, Evening Shade (as Irna, 1992-1994) and Passions (as Matilda Matthews, 2000). Ghostley also appeared in made-for-TV movies, and she was seen on the big screen in such feature films as To Kill a Mockingbird (1962), The Flim-Flam Man (1967), The Graduate (1967), With Six You Get Eggroll (1968), Addams Family Reunion (1998) and Mothers and Daughters (2002). Lightly creased at blank margins and corners. Minor surface creases and scratches (most not evident head on), light crease at hair of Ghostley's image. Overall, fine condition.
