Stock Certificate signed: "Alice Stone Blackwell" as President, "Francis J Garrison" as Treasurer and "Catharine Wilde" as Clerk of The Proprietors of the Woman's Journal, 1p, 7½x5¼, with 3¼x5¼ transfer portion affixed at left edge. Boston, 1911 January 7. One share valued at $50 issued to The National American Woman Suffrage Association. Certificate "125". On verso, the Certificate has been transferred back to The Proprietors of the Woman's Journal by the Treasurer of The National American Woman Suffrage Association in New York, 1913 February 13. Alice Stone Blackwell (1857-1950) was the only child of abolitionist Henry Blackwell and women's rights activist Lucy Stone. After graduating from Boston University in 1881, Alice joined her parents' magazine, "Woman's Journal", as an editor. Her mother founded this official magazine for the American Woman Suffrage Association. In 1890, the American Woman Suffrage Association, with Lucy Stone as Chairman of the Executive Committee, and the National Woman Suffrage Association, headed by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony, merged to become the National American Woman Suffrage Association.With this document, the unified association had invested in the perpetuation of the "Woman's Journal", which was financially operating under the name of "The Proprietors of the Woman's Journal". Alice served as its Editor for 35 years.She retired from the "Journal" shortly before the 19th Amendment was ratified. Fine condition.
