ALICE WHITE. Photograph signed: "Alice White/6-24-81". B/w, 8x10. Silent screen leading lady Alice White (born circa 1904-1907; died 1983), born Alva White, was Warner Bros. answer to Clara Bow. A former secretary and script girl, White made her film debut in 1927, appearing in six films that year. Her film credits include Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1928), The Big City (1937), Girls' Town (1942) and Flamingo Road (1949). White, who performed on vaudeville when her film career waned, returned to Hollywood in 1933 and became involved in a sex scandal with her boyfriend, actor Jack Warburton, and her future husband, screenwriter and producer Sidney "Sy" Bartlett (the two were divorced in 1937). A subsequent divorce, further sex scandals and a 1957 accident ended her stage and screen career, and White returned to being a secretary. This photograph was signed two years before her death. Defects from original negative have reproduced at background. Light black mark at lower left corner. Fine condition.
