The first show of its kind to address topics like the Vietnam War, abortion and homosexuality, All My Children was #1 in the Nielsen daytime ratings in 1978, and #2 through most of the 1980s and 1990s. It had an unusually high proportion of male viewers (30%). Throughout these years, SUSAN LUCCI (b. 1943), portraying Erica Kane, was the show's biggest star, called "Daytime's Leading Lady" by TV Guide, and earning the highest daytime salary (at one point $1 million a year). Lucci was nominated for an Emmy 18 straight times, a pattern parodied when she appeared on Saturday Night Live. She finally won, to a standing ovation, in 1999. Lucci has made cameo appearances on other shows, including a serious run on Dancing with the Stars season #7. RICHARD SHOBERG (b. 1950), a veteran of other soaps (Somerset, The Edge of Night) played Tom Cudahy on All My Children from 1977 to 1995, with occasional appearances thereafter. Erica Kane (Lucci) was the first of his four wives on the show. Shoberg has made guest appearances on evening series, including CSI: Miami and two of the Law & Order shows. Corners lightly creased.
