ALLAN DWAN - AUTOGRAPHED SIGNED PHOTOGRAPH - HFSID 19405
Sale Price $342.00
Extremely rare photo of Allan Dwan signed by him in the lower margin
Photograph signed: "Sincerely/Allan Dwan". B/w, 8x10 overall, image 4½x6½ (one surface). Canadian-born director Allan Dwan (1885-1981) entered the emerging film industry as a screenwriter, but soon turned to directing, playing that key role in well over 400 films covering half a century (1911-1961). (Because so many films were produced so quickly in the early silent era, without much record keeping, estimates of Dwan's film numbers vary widely. The estimate cited here is very conservative.) Dwan's engineering background helped him become an innovator in film technique. He directed Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks in Robin Hood (1922), Shirley Temple in Rebeccca of Sunnybrook Farm (1938), John Wayne in Sands of Iwo Jima (1949) and Ronald Reagan and Barbara Stanwyck in Cattle Queen of Montana (1954). Print is grainy and there are minor flaws in negative. Otherwise, fine condition.
