Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Saul/with best/wishes/Allan Jones". B/w, 8x10. Collector's ink stamp on verso dates signature: 3/6/1936. Allan Jones (1908-1992), a star of Broadway and film musicals of the 1930s and forties, made his screen debut in Show Boat (1936). From the 1937 film Firefly came his hit song, "Donkey Serenade". He is best remembered for his romantic roles in two Marx Brothers productions: A Night at the Opera and A Day at the Races. After his film career he toured with stage companies in such productions as Man of La Mancha. Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New York business man by day, pursued his love of film and theatre in the evening, making friends with many celebrities. While other autograph seekers offered album leaves, Goodman presented stars with snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to sign in fountain pen. Fine condition.
