ALLEN GINSBERG. ANS: "A.G.", 1p, 8½x11. New York, New York, 1980 October 6. To unknown recipient. In full: "Ok - here's the photos you sent". Written on verso of a review of Straight Hearts' Delight: Love Poems and Selected Letters 1947-1980, written by Allen Ginsberg and Peter Orlovsky and edited by Winston Leland. The review is imprinted on letterhead of Gay Sunshine, San Francisco. From the review, in part: "'Straight Hearts' Delight' is a crucial volume for understanding the Beat Movement and two of its most prominent members. Included are gay love poems by Allen Ginsberg and Peter Orlovsky, many previously unpublished in book form, covering a thirty-year period; also letters exchanged between the two poets which document their own love relationship, their travels abroad and friendship with other writers...." ALLEN GINSBERG (1926-1997), a Buddhist and critic of materialism, was the "poet laureate" of the 1950s "Beat Generation" and spokesman for the counterculture of the 1960s. His poem "Howl" (1956) was vindicated in an obscenity trial and went on to great popularity. Another poetry collection, The Fall of America, won the National Book Award (1974). Poet PETER ORLOVSKY was Ginsberg's companion for three decades from 1954 and close friend until Ginsberg's death. Ginsberg's return address stamped at upper right margin, which is lightly soiled. Lightly creased with folds, not at signature. Light show through of type on verso. Overall, fine condition.
