Jenkins". Sepia, 8x10. The screen's premier "comic gangster", stage
and screen actor Allen Jenkins (1900-1974), born Alfred McGonegal, was a member
in good standing of Hollywood's "Irish Mafia", which included actors
James Cagney, Pat O'Brien, Matt McHugh and Jimmy Gleason. Jenkins, who made
his film debut in 1931 in The Girl Habit, appeared in a long list of
feature films through the 1970s, including I Am a Fugitive From a Chain
Gang (1932), 42nd Street (1933), Dead End (1937), Destry
Rides Again (1939), Ball of Fire (1941), Tortilla Flat (1942),
Stage Door Canteen (1943), Pillow Talk (1959), It's a Mad, Mad,
Mad, Mad World (1963), Robin and the Seven Hoods (1964), I'd
Rather Be Rich (1964), Doctor, You've Got To Be Kidding (1967) and
The Front Page (1974, his last film). Jenkins also appeared in a number
of TV shows and series, from Playhouse 90 in 1957 to several episodes of
Bewitched (1971-1972). Lightly silvered, fine
condition.
