Autograph Letter Signed: “Aunt Allie”. Four pages. 5¼x8. Dated September 27, 1887. Sent to Captain Eugene Griffin. Postmarked New York City, New York, September 27, 1887. In Part: Your letter…has been re-ceived with a bill in-cluded from Wassen Ward + Co.” This letter discusses business and family matters and was sent from New York City, New York, to Washington, District of Columbia. Almira Russell Hancock (1832-1893) married Winfield Scott Hancock in 1850. They had two children, both of whom passed away before either of their parents. After her husband's death in 1886, she published a book titled Reminiscences of Winfield Scott Hancock. She sent this letter to Eugene Griffin (1853-1907), the young man who married her namesake, niece Almira Russell Hancock Griffin (1857-1934). Eugene was the first Vice President of the General Electric Company, a company commonly known now as GE. He fought in the Spanish American War. Thin paper can be seen through. Toned. Minor tears along right edge on first and second sheet. Otherwise, fine condition.
