ALVIN "AL" DARK
Alvin Dark sends a typed letter as the manger of the San Francisco
Giants of thanks for the invitation to visit the set but time did not
permit.
Typed Letter Signed: "Al Dark" as Manager of the San
Francisco Giants, 1p, 8½x11. Candlestick Park, San Francisco, 1963 June
14. Pictorial stationery. To actor Kirk Douglas, Paramount Studios, Hollywood.
In full: "Referring to your letter of June 3, we thank you for your kind
invitation extended to the Giants to visit the movie set of your new film. I am
sorry I was not able to reply sooner, but our schedule has been very hectic.
Unfortunately, also, the team was in Los Angeles for only a two day series, and
while we would have liked to accept your invitation time did not permit extra
activities. On behalf of the players and myself, thank you very much for your
consideration; we certainly appreciate your thoughtfulness. Sincerely,"
The movie set was for Seven Days in May. Alvin Dark
(1922-2014), the 1948 Major League Rookie of the Year, spent seven of his
14-year career playing shortstop for the New York Giants, the rest split among
the Braves, Cards, Cubs and Phillies. He managed the 1962 Giants to the
National League pennant and the 1974 A's to the World Championship. Lightly
creased. Fine condition.
