Alvino Rey (1908-2004) was a swing era band leader who also performed orchestral
and - late in his career - jazz compositions. His orchestra scored several
top ten hits in the early 1940s. A pioneer of electric instruments, Rey
helped Gibson develop its first electric guitar (1935). During naval
service in World War II, he led a band while also working on radar technology.
Rey was music director for the 1950s TV show of The King Sisters, who had
sung with his band decades before. He continued performing with a quartet
through the early 1990s.Sepia 8x10. Creased. Mounting residue on verso.
