Signature: "Amanda M. Douglas/Author of/A Little Girl in Old
Boston/Newark, N. J./December 1899", 4½x3½. Accompanied by original
mailing envelope addressed (unknown hand) to W. C. Cahill, Kansas City,
Missouri. Amanda Minnie Douglas (1831-1916) wrote popular short
stories, published in the Saturday Evening Post and other magazines, as well
as many adult and young people's novels, beginning with In Trust (1866).
Especially popular were her historically grounded novels for young women,
especially the Little Girl series referenced here. Douglas was also an
amateur inventor, creating - among other devices - a folding frame for mosquito
netting. Toned. Fine condition.
