The famed novelist pens her autograph on this 3¼x2¼ piece of paper, in black ink
Signature: “Amelia E. Barr” in black ink. 3¼x2¼. Amelia Edith Huddleston Barr (1831-1919) was a British novelist who migrated to the United States, where her husband and three of their six children died from yellow fever in 1867. In 1869 she moved to New York City, where she started writing for religious periodicals and to publish a series of semi-historical tales and novels. She achieved her greatest success in 1891, where she and her daughters moved up the Hudson River to Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York, where they renovated a house on the slopes of Storm King Mountain and named it Cherry Croft; such name has been applied to that period of her career. She is buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Tarrytown, New York. Lightly toned. Mounting residue on verso. Pencil notations on verso (unknown hand). Otherwise, fine condition.
