The four stars of The Americanization of Emily signs a laser disc cover for this film.

The Americanization of Emily, a 1964 film set twenty years earlier on the eve of the D-Day invasion, features a romance between English driver Julie Andrews and unheroic American naval officer James Garner, who is set up by James Coburn and others to be the first American casualty of the assault. (The comedy was directed by Arthur Hiller. Andrews and Garner have both said that this film was their favorite movie role. JULIE ANDREWS received an Oscar nomination for her starring role in The Sound of Music, and then one the prize in the title role of Mary Poppins. JAMES GARNER, star of the long-running TV series Maverick and The Rockford Files, has also garnered film successes like Murphy's Romance and Space Cowboys. JAMES COBURN (d. 2002) played classic tough guys in films like The Magnificent Seven and The Great Escape before getting an Oscar nomination for his abusive father in Affliction (1998). Director ARTHUR HILLER moved from television plays of the 1950s to big screen productions of the sixties and afterwards, winning an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe award for Love Story (1970).
