The renowned Hungarian violinist signs his name in blue ink
Signature: "Andre Gertler" in blue ink. 5x3¼ card affixed with 1½x2 photo of the violinist. Andre Gertler (1907-1998) was a classical violinist and teacher. Born in Hungary, Gertler fled the country when I came under Nazi control to Belgium, where he would become a teacher at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels. A dear friend of Bela Bartok, Gertler would record all the works that Bartok composed for the violin, including two concertos. Gertler was a mentor to artists such as Rudolf Werthen and Andre Rieu. Toned. Corners rounded. Pencil notes in bottom margin and on verso in unknown hand. Light surface creases. Otherwise, fine condition.
