French dancer and choreographer Prokovsky (1939-2009) was a solidly built and energetic bravura dancer known for his attentiveness to his partner on stage - especially with Galina Samsova, his wife for a time. He made his debut with the Comédie-Française in Molière's Les amants magnifiques in 1954 and danced and choreographed for the next 35 years, becoming principal dancer with the New York City Ballet, the London Festival Balletand the Grand Ballet of the Marquis de Cuevas. Prokovsky danced with troupes directed by French choreographers Janine Charrat and Roland Petit as well as forming his own companies. Most of his work after 1979 was in choreography; he was known for evening-long dance interpretations of literature and opera, including Anna Karenina (1979), The Three Musketeers (1980), Dr. Zhivago (1983), Romeo and Juliet (1985) and La Traviata (1989), as well as the revues That Certain Feeling (1984), with music by George and Ira Gershwin, and Verdi Variations (1981). Lightly bowed. Light dent at left edge. Otherwise in fine condition.
