ANDREA JAEGER
Superstar turned superhero
Photograph inscribed and signed "To/Edwin,/All the/Best!/Andrea Jaeger".
Color, 8x10. Pictured with Hanna Barbera character Touché Turtle. Born in
1965, Andrea Jaeger was a tennis prodigy in the late 1970s and early
1980s. She was the top ranked 18-and-under player in the United
States in high school, placed in the singles final of the French Open in 1982
and in Wimbledon in 1983 and won the French Open in mixed singles in
1982. At Wimbledon, she was the youngest player seeded in Wimbledon
until Jennifer Capriati in 1990 and defeated six-time champion Billie
Jean King. A shoulder injury ended her tennis career at age 19, which gave
her a chance to study theology in college and, in 2006, become an Anglican
Dominican nun. She used much of her $1.4 million in winnings and endorsement
money to create the philanthropic Silver Lining Foundation in 1990 and
Little Star Foundation in 2004. Oprah Winfrey has called Jaeger a
superstar turned superhero. Fine condition.
