Handwritten, signed letter from Gow to an associate saying the information he's looking for will be found in an edition of Graphic and Illustrated News from 1881. Extremely rare!
Autograph letter signed: "A C Gow", in black ink, 1 page, 4½x7¼. May 14. In full: "Dear Sir, I have had [illegible] and should have written him before now. The information you require will be found in both Graphic & Illustrated News for the first half of 1881. I believe my [illegible] from the Royal [illegible] was [illegible] 1870. Believe me yours truly". British painter Andre Carrick Gow (1848-1920) was best known for his paintings of British and European history, becoming an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1880. He became a full Royal Academician in 1890 and eventually was made Keeper of the Royal Academy, a position he served in until his death in 1920. Multiple folds. Edges lightly worn. Corners lightly worn. Light surface creases. Slightly toned and soiled, with stray ink marks across. Some areas of ink slightly bled, but clearly legible. Adhesive residue on top and bottom left corners. Otherwise, fine condition.
