The congressman from Tennessee pens his name on this slip of paper
Signature: “A J Caldwell/ Tenn” 7¼x2¾. Andrew Jackson Caldwell (1837-1906) represented the state of Tennessee in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1883 to 1887. Following his graduation from Franklin College, Caldwell worked as a teacher, and then studied law. He then served in the First Regiment, Tennessee Cavalry, in the Confederate States Army during the U.S. Civil War. After practicing law for several years after the war, Caldwell began his political career, serving first as attorney general for Davidson and Rutherford Counties and then in the Tennessee House of Representatives before becoming a Democratic member of Congress. Irregular left edge. Lightly toned, especially along edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
