Autograph Letter Signed: "Andrew Lang" in ink on a 4½x7 sheet of paper. Dated October 23. No Year. The letterhead features an address: "1 Marloes Road, Kensington.W.". Lang lived at this address from 1876-1912. In Full: "My dear Sir/I hope you got the article. I usually sign A. Lang, but, if you wish it, name myself as publisher/sincerely yours". Andrew Lang (1844-1912) was a Scottish writer who wrote in a variety of different styles and formats. He was considered the preeminent publisher and jack-of-all-trades writer in his time. Today, he's most famous for his folklore and mythological interests obvious in the translation and illustration of many fairy tales in a series of books, the first being The Blue Fairy Book (1889) and the last being The Lilac Fairy Book(1910). Other numerous interests include anthropology and the study of classics, Homer (for whom he completed prose translations) in particular. Toned. Pin-sized hole in top left with aggravated paper surrounding it smaller than the head of a pencil. Lightly worn edges. Mailing crease. Otherwise, fine condition.
