Andrew W. Mellon sends a typed letter of thanks for the message of
sympathy about his brother's death.
Typed Letter Signed: "A.W. Mellon", 1p, 5½x8½. Washington,
D. C., 1933 December 12. On personal letterhead to Wm. Sulzer, Esq,
New York, New York. In full: "I greatly appreciate your message of
sympathy at the time of my brothers' death. Sincerely yours," Andrew W.
Mellon (1855-1937), who was Secretary of the Treasury under Presidents
Harding, Coolidge and Hoover (1921-1932), was noted for his national financial
policies to reduce the public debt in America as well as the refunding of
European debts. He had started his career in the banking firm of Thomas
Mellon and Sons of Pittsburgh, his birthplace, and later became partner and
President of the firm that developed into the Mellon National Bank. Fold
crease not neat signature. Fine condition.
