Painter Andrew Wyeth wrote this letter to a fan and fellow painter in 1964.
Accompanied by original mailing envelope.
Autograph letter signed "Andrew Wyeth". 1 page, 7¼x10¼. In
full: "Dear Mr. Earle: Many thanks for your kind note about my
show at the Morgan Library. I was pleased to see the reproduction of your
work. More power to you. With kindest regards." Lightly toned and creased.
Pen skipped while writing signature and letter, but both are still legible.
Folded twice and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition. Accompanied by:
Unsigned envelope. Postmarked Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, April 24, 1963.Addressed in Wyeth's hand to Mr. James Earle, East Orange, New Jersey.One 5¢ black-and-white stamp affixed. Lightly toned, soiled and
creased. Neatly torn open at top edge. Light tears in top edge. Otherwise in
fine condition. Wyeth (1917-2009, born in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania)
found the subject matter for his paintings in the two regions in which he
lives: Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania (winter) and Cushing, Maine (summer).
Wyeth's work provides almost photographic depictions of lonely rural life.
His best-known painting, Christina's World, depicts a
neighbor, polio-stricken Christina Olson, picking berries in the grass while
looking at her large home on a hill.
