ANDY BATHGATE
This signed color publicity photograph features the Hall of Fame hockey player on the ice in uniform for the New York Rangers
Photograph Signed: “Andy/ Bathgate #9”. 8x10. Color. Canadian Hockey player Andy Bathgate (1932-2016) played professional Hockey from 1952 until 1975. He helped the Toronto Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup in 1964. Bathgate was also known for his stance against the violent tactic of spearing that was common throughout the game during his playing days. By using one end of the hockey stick to stab at another player, major injury could be distributed. Bathgate published an article speaking out against the practice, but was fined by the league. Nevertheless, the practice was banned at the end of the year. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1978 and his #9 sweater was retired by the New York Rangers in 2009. Fine condition.
