Handwritten note by the English novelist
Autograph Note signed: "Angela Thirkell/1952/with best wishes to/Kathleen Richardson", 3½x2½. Angela Thirkell (1890-1961), born Angela MacKaill, took the name of her second husband. Needing to write after the failure of her second marriage, she published a memoir, Three Houses, in 1931. Immediately successful, she followed with 29 novels set in the fictional English county of Barsetshire first imagined by Anthony Trollope. She also wrote a historical novel, Coronation Summer, three autobiographical novels, and a collection of children's stories, The Grateful Sparrow. Related to Stanley Baldwin and Rudyard Kipling, and the goddaughter of J. M. Barrie, Thirkell was the mother of author Colin MacInnes. Lightly smudged, but legible. Otherwise, fine condition.
