ANITA BJORK
A still from the 1951 film Miss Julie signed by starring actress Anita Bjork beneath her image
Printed photograph signed: "Anita Bjork", in black felt tip, B/w 10¼x8. A leading lady of Swedish theatre, actress Anita Bjork (1923-2012) appeared in more than 100 stage roles in her career, but was known to international audiences for her role in the Cannes Film Festival winning Miss Julie (1951). Bjork was praised for her masterful portrayal of the wounded, upper-class lead, and sparked the interest of directors in America. After seeing her in Miss Julie, director Alfred Hitchcock planned to have her as the female lead in his film I Confess, but was persuaded not to by higher-ups after it was discovered Bjork had a child with a lover she had not yet married. Despite marrying shortly after, Bjork's career in America was further halted by the failed film Night People and the suicide of her husband. Bjork fared better in her homeland of Sweden, where she continued to act in theatre roles for the remainder of her career. Corners slightly worn and creased. Slightly toned. Light surface creases (not seen head on). Otherwise, fine condition.
