ANITA CERQUETTI
The Italian diva signs her name on this 5x7 sepia tone photograph
Inscribed photograph signed: "A José Feldman/con viva sympatía/Anita Cerquetti/1-9-60". B/w, 5x7. Italian dramatic soprano Anita Cerquetti (1931-2014), also a classically trained violinist, made her opera debut at Spoleto in 1951 as Aida. Her debut at La Scala came in 1958. That same year, she was praised for her performance as a last-minute substitute for Maria Callas in a Rome production of Norma, commuting back and forth to Naples, where she was already playing the role. Health problems forced her early retirement, at age 30. Lightly worn at corners and edges. Mounting residue on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
