First Day Cover signed: "Anita Gillette", 3½x6½ FDC honoring the UN's International Women's Year, postmarked Seneca Falls, New York, August 26, 1975, 10-cent stamp affixed, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Primarily a stage actress early in her career, Anita Gillette (b. Anita Luebben in 1936) made her Broadway debut in Gypsy (1959). She was nominated for a Tony for Brighton Beach Memoir, and won a Theatre World Award for Russell Peterson's Sketchbook. Like many stage actors, she had continuing roles in daytime soaps, including Edge of Night and Search for Tomorrow. A regular on game shows like What's My Line and Match Game, she was a frequent guest of Johnny Carson. Transitioning to character roles by the 1980s, she has played the mother of quite a few film stars, including Jennifer Aniston, Jack Black, Bill Murray, Mary Louise Parker and John Goodman. In the new millennium, she has had recurring roles in the TV series Normal, Ohio and The War at Home. Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso. Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
