ANITA PAGE

The famous actress pens a note to a friend on the cover of this program on the occasion of the first day of issue of the commemorative stamp honoring 50 years of talking pictures, signed in black ink

Autograph Note on Program: "To dear Jess, How great it was, our meeting for [illegible] Herschel and I wish you in your new column and all the best. Anita Page." Four pages. Anita Pomares (1910-2008) made her film debut in A Kiss for Cinderella (1925), and she became known for her roles as flappers and ambitious starlets. Cast with Joan Crawford in three popular films (Our Dancing Daughters, 1928; Our Modern Maidens, 1929; and, Our Blushing Brides, 1930), by 1929, Page received over 10,000 fan letters a week (second only to Greta Garbo), including over 100 from an obsessive Italian admirer, Benito Mussolini! In 1996, sixty years after making her last film (Hitch Hike to Heaven, 1936), Page returned to the big screen in Sunset After Dark, and she went on to appear in Witchcraft XI: Sisters in Blood (2000), The Crawling Brain (2002) and Bob's Night Out (2004). In 1997, Page was the recipient of the Women's International Center (WIC) Living Legacy Award. Five years later, on May 13, 2002, at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences 75th anniversary, she received a standing ovation while attending a screening of her 1929 film, The Broadway Melody, the winner of the 1929 Best Picture Academy Award. Her final film, Frankenstein Rising (2008) was in post-production when she died. Corners slightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
